The Biggest Trends for Fall/Winter 2018

The only thing exciting about summer ending is that a new fashion season is starting!  Don’t get me wrong, every season has its perks and when fall rolls around, I’m ready to fall in love with fall fashion.  And this season there’s plenty of fashion to look forward to.  The biggest trends for Fall/Winter 2018 offer something for the disco girl at heart, to the animal-prints lover, to the I-love-90’s plaid, to the cowgirl who wants to wear her cowboy boots with everything.   It’s an exciting season ahead of us and designers are offering a plethora of unique options.    Here are the biggest trends for Fall/Winter 2018:

SILVER

One of this season’s hottest trend is high-shine silver and it’s not for the faint of heart.  That space cadet look is in for you fashion-forward girls.   For those of you not quite ready to go full-on astronaut, I would suggest opting for pops of silver as opposed to blinding head-to-toe looks.    Try a pair of silver pants with a plain white tee-shirt or start slowly by adding a silver shoe to a neutral outfit.

PLAID

This 90’s trend is back and it’s everywhere.  From tartan checks to madras plaid, this trend will be your new obsession come this fall/winter.   This season’s plaid is all about sophistication and fun.   To keep the look updated, mix and match your plaid with purples and reds, wear them with over-sized earrings, and finish the look off with white boots.   For those of you feeling extra adventurous, I suggest going for the bold head-to-toe plaid statement.  Not sure if a plaid suit, blazer, skirt, or shirt is right for you, then ease into this trend with an accessory.

ANIMAL PRINTS

This season it’s all about the eye-catching leopard, tiger, zebra, and snake-skin look.   You will find animal patterns in various clothing items and accessories.   However, the hottest trend in the animal print this season is the revival of the classic leopard coat.    It’s an oversized silhouette that can easily be worn over any outfit and instantly makes everything old in your closet look new again.  The leopard coat this fall is a contemporary take on a constant staple.

PATENT LEATHER

This glossy fabric has returned and it’s time for patent leather to shine!  This statement-making fabric once only viewed for nighttime and seen as trashy has now been widely accepted by designers and street stylists.  Last season vinyl and patent leather pieces were spotted on catwalks and where popular outfits for showgoers.  From jackets (especially trenches) to pants to shoes and handbags.  This season is no different and you will find a wide variety of options in hues and price points.  (btw- black is the most popular with this shiny trend).   Get ready to get your shine on this season.

THE CHUNKY SNEAKER

Yes, these cumbersome-looking, ugly, oversized, “dad” sneakers are a hot trend this season.  The chunky sneaker originated in the 90’s and these days just about every fashion girl is sporting them.  Many designers like Louis Vuitton, Celine, Stella McCartney and the most popular, Balenciaga, are showing variations of the chunky sneaker this Fall/Winter.   Yes, they are super ugly but in defense of this ugly-sneaker trend, they are the comfiest footwear trend ever!

THE COWBOY BOOT

The western trend is strong this season and the cowboy boot is the way to pull off this look.   You can wear them with any denim piece to a pretty floral dress and they are incredibly fun to shop for.  All the major retailers are selling them from Zara’s to Barney’s (and everyone in between) -but the real fun can be found in authentic western shops.  This is a trend that has staying power for seasons to come so it may be worthwhile to make an investment in a super chic pair (just leave the spurs behind).
